FAQ

When is registration?
Registration for the Spring Season starts on-line December 1st and runs through mid February, Late April for Jr/Sr's. Registration for Fall Ball typically runs September through mid November. Please visit our website for specific registration dates.

What if we missed registration?
If you missed registration, there may be a late registration. Late registrations can be added to a wait list if open. Late registrants are only added on an "as needed" basis. Please make every attempt to sign up in person or online during the designated registration period.

When are games scheduled?

Practices for the Spring Season starts in late February, early March per the team manager. The Spring Season games kick off on the last Saturday of March and run to late May with championships for majors in June and all-stars to follow through into early July.

Do we play on Sundays?
No. Games are not played on Sundays. A make-up game can be re-scheduled for a Sunday with the approval of the two team managers and the League. Teams may opt to have practices on Sundays with the majority of team approval, as most fields are available.

What is included with my registration?
Player will receive a team jersey and hat. Shared expenses for team gear, practice and game balls, insurance, fields and light charges.

What is the refund policy?
Sierra Vista Little League only offers a refund if the league is advised before the first practice is attended.

Why does SVLL do background checks on all volunteers?
In order to protect the safety of our children we process all volunteers using a thorough background check (criminal and sex offender in all states) provided by Little League International.

Why can't players take warm-up swings outside of the dugout?
Over the years Little League has found that the likelihood for injuries to players is greatly reduced if players stay in the dugout.

Why can't coaches warm-up pitchers?
Little League’s position is that adults are here to teach the children and as such should have children warm-up pitchers. Rosters are not limited to nine players and therefore should have additional players to warm-up a pitcher. This is a Little League International mandate for safety and liability for which SVLL has to strictly enforce.

When are Tryouts?  (Spring Season Only)
Tryouts are also referred to as Player Evaluations, since every child that wants to participate in Little League is allowed to play. Player Evaluations for Minors and above are held in early February just at the end of registrations. Late April for Jr/Sr's.

What are Player Evaluations?  (Spring Season Only)
A Player Evaluation is a method for measuring the skill of a player. This allows each manager to assess each player’s potential and make an informed decision as he assembles his team during the draft process (Minors, Majors, Intermediates and Jr/Sr's only).

Local Little League Rules State:  (Spring Season Only)
Qualified players may tryout for a higher level but are not guaranteed of being drafted at that level.
A “qualified” player league age 10 must be drafted up for Majors. Must be league age 8 for Minors. For Coach Pitch plays must be at least 6yrs old and a year of t-ball play required, no tryout.

What is the "Draft"?   (Spring Season Only)
The draft process is a method in which the managers select their teams. There are specific draft methods and rules mandated by Little League International that we must follow as part of our charter.

What if I, as a parent, want my player on a specific team?
Requests may be submitted for T-Ball and Coach Pitch. Minors level and above no requests are taken. All players are drafted.

Why was my player not picked in a higher division?  (Spring Season Only)
Each manager drafts his team from the list of eligible player candidates until rosters are full. The reason for the skills evaluation is for each manager to have a reasonable basis for making an informed choice as to which players to select.

What if I don't attend Player Evaluations?  (Spring Season Only)
Players that do not participate in evaluations are restricted to which division they may play. Minors, Majors and above players who do not attend tryouts will be selected by blind draft, 8 year olds will play in Coach Pitch. 9,10 and some 11 year olds if rosters fill in majors, will play in minors. Some 11 and all 12 year olds will play in Majors.

Do I have to sell raffle tickets?
No, but then you will not be eligible for a registration discount($30). Players that participate in the SVLL Fundraiser are required to sell 10 raffle tickets or repay the raffle discount. This is the only fundraiser SVLL will ask you to support during the Spring Season and every dollar goes back to into the league. Great prizes go to the winning ticket holders as well as the teams selling the most tickets!
